RCCO postpones season opener
12.03.2020 The coronavirus has also reached the “big small” electric racing series RCCO. The start of the season, originally planned for 25 March at the Shell Technology Center Hamburg, has been postponed to a later date.
“Of course it is a pity that the already traditional event at Shell cannot take place at the originally planned date,” says Dr Wolfgang Warnecke, Chief Scientist Mobility for Shell. “The situation is dramatic for the whole world. Each of us must now do our part to slow down the spread of the corona virus. That is why postponing the start of the season is the right sign. The RCCO is showing that it is dealing responsibly with the corona crisis.”
Instead of the slot car race, an additional race of the new RCCO E-Sport Series will be held on 25 March, which will be streamed live on Facebook, Twitch and YouTube. DTM driver Mike Rockenfeller with an Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo will start as a prominent guest driver.
“Currently there are more important topics than an RCCO race,” says Thomas Voigt, CEO and founder of the “big small” electric racing series. “Even if we can only make a very small contribution, it makes perfect sense. With the new RCCO E-Sport Series we have a good opportunity to drive exciting races and to inspire racing fans even in these difficult times. About a year ago we started another project in the SimRacing area, which will now have a completely new relevance. But of course we hope that the situation will calm down quickly and that we will be able to hold our beloved RCCO slot car races again. Especially since 2020 is our 30th season.”
