Premiere at the Nürburgring: RCCO meets SimRacing
12.09.2017 Suspense galore in the ‘big little’ RCCO racing series: before the eighth of eleven races this season to be held at SimRacing EXPO and the Blancpain GT Series at the Nürburgring next Sunday just a single point separates leader of the standings Björn Skottke (KTM X-BOW Vision RCCO) from his closest rival Daniel Bäumler (Volkswagen Golf GTE Vision RCCO).
From Friday to Sunday the RCCO is presenting digital slot racing at SimRacing EXPO on the Ring Boulevard. The annual trade show for virtual racing is inviting visitors from 16 to 17 September to get a first-hand impression of current trends, soft- and hardware and e-racing close to the action. In addition to the ADAC Simracing Trophy, a competition for single gamers, a team competition – the GT500 – will be held for the first time as well live at the venue, attracting the world elite of the scene to the Nürburgring.
The RCCO race, starting on Sunday at twelve noon, will be held on the three-lane SÜDSCHLEIFE digital which the OK Speed Marketing agency deploys for events. The cars principally run in the centre lane on the digital Slotfire track. If a car is faster than the one in front, it is guided to either the inner or outer lane by digitally controlled switches with collision protection. For the first time in the 27-year- history of the ‘big little’ racing series, eight cars will be on track simultaneously in an RCCO race. Top-flight RCCO slot car campaigners will be on the grid as well as ‘real’ racing drivers such as the five-time Le Mans winner Frank Biela or Markus Winkelhock, this year’s winner of the 24-hour races at the Nürburgring and at Spa. GT campaigner Kim Hauschild from Team Volkswagen Motorsport-Drivers Company in third place of the RCCO overall standings, even still has title chances.
SimRacing EXPO visitors will have the opportunity to test their skills on the RCCO controls as well. On Saturday, the SUEDSCHLEIFE will be open to spectators from 9 AM to 6.30 PM and on Sunday from 9 to 11.30 AM. The culminating event on Saturday at 6.45 PM will be the ‘Race of Champions’ of the top six. The winner of the day and the ‘best qualifier’ from Sunday morning will be able to participate in the RCCO race.
The digital slot racing will be presented by Liquid Ice as part of SimRacing EXPO. Liquid Ice Performance and Recovery is used by many top-class athletes and racing drivers. The Liquid Ice technology enhances performance by optimizing the core temperature and reducing the production of lactic acid in the muscles. This provides advantages in slot racing and sim racing as well.
Last year some 15,000 spectators travelled to the Nürburgring for SimRacing EXPO. The final RCCO race can be watched on Sunday from 2.55 to 3.25 PM in a live stream at www.simracingexpo.de.
SimRacing EXPO will also feature a 1/1 scale premiere: at the SUEDSCHLEIFE Kissling Motorsport is going to present the limited special edition model Opel Astra TCR ‘Kissling Motorsport 40th’ that was developed on the occasion of Kissling Motorsport’s 40th company anniversary. Opel has an RCCO history as well: in both 1995 and 1996 the Opel Calibra V6 won the championship title in the ‘big little’ racing series.
